Best Brake Upgrades for 1995-1998 Nissan R33 Skyline
The R33's factory braking setup is competent but it's showing its age — especially on cars that have been modified, seen track days, or just clocked 25-plus years of hard use. The OEM Sumitomo calipers front and rear hold up reasonably well, and rebuild support still exists if you know where to look. Frenkit seal kits cover both the four-pot fronts and two-pot rears, which keeps you off the full caliper replacement path if the hardware is still sound. When fitting pads, don't overlook the shim stack — running without proper anti-squeal shims on Sumitomo or Brembo hardware causes noise and uneven bedding fast.
If you're upgrading, work in stages. Start with fluid and braided lines. The factory rubber lines are 25-plus years old on most cars and degrade in a way that kills pedal feel before anything else fails. Then sort your pads for actual use — street compound for daily and occasional circuit work, a dedicated track pad if you're doing regular sessions. Commit to a big brake kit last. BBK fitment on the R33 needs careful attention to hub offset and wheel clearance — 17-inch minimum is the practical floor, and R32 or R34 fitment doesn't carry straight across.
