Best Brake Upgrades for 2007+ Nissan R35 GT-R
The R35's factory Brembo setup is capable hardware. Four-pot front, two-pot rear, Brembo calipers from the factory — it's not a bad starting point. But it has real limits once you start adding power or putting the car through serious track work. Fade resistance drops off under repeated hard use, pad options at OEM spec are narrow, and the stock rotors don't handle heat cycles well over time.
Upgrading brakes on an R35 isn't about fixing something broken. It's about building a system that keeps pace with the rest of the car.
**Pads first.** For most owners running the factory caliper setup, this is where the conversation starts. Compounds like CIRCO's M119 are a solid reference point for track use — genuine bite and fade resistance without touching the calipers. If you're running a big brake kit — Brembo GT, Alcon, AP Racing CP5200-based setups — pad selection gets more critical. Not every compound is rated for those piston configurations. Check compatibility before you buy.
**Lines and fluid.** Don't skip these. The R35 is a heavy car with serious power, and thermal management across the whole braking system matters. Braided lines and a high-temp fluid like Motul RBF 660 (boiling point 325°C wet) are cheap insurance against a spongy pedal mid-session.
**Rotors.** Treat them as a consumable if you're tracking regularly. Slotted over drilled — better longevity under heat. Size to your caliper choice, not just whatever clears the wheel.
